Niacin - vitamin PP or B3 - a water-soluble vitamin belonging to the B group. Niacin can to some extent be synthesised naturally in the human body from the amino acid tryptophan, but it is also worth supplying it to the body from outside, along with the daily diet: vitamin PP can be found in animal products such as meat, fish or eggs. As a result of the use of dietary supplements containing niacin, a phenomenon called niacin flushing may occur, which is the result of the immediate release of nicotinic acid in the body, contributing to increased blood flow due to vasodilation. This is a common side effect associated with the use of niacin-containing dietary supplements, which can manifest as redness and itching of the skin. It is a phenomenon which, although harmless, can contribute to feelings of discomfort. However, a good solution may be to supplement with niacin in the form of inositol hexanicotinate, available from OstroVit. It is a form of the compound which does not cause the reddening effect and therefore allows for problem-free supplementation.
